Interview with Master Tak Craftsman Aaron Schmersal (EssenceOfAaron)
First Tak board (2016)
It was made during the original Kickstarter event in 2016. See more photos on aswood.works.
Thesis (2017)
Aaron donated this board to Worldbuilders in 2017. It was "unlocked" as a give-away once they have raised $10,000. See more photos on aswood.works.
Thesis: Folly (2018)
Second board donated to WorldBuiders. An oversite led to drilling too large of holes for the 7th row’s nails. This forced Aaron to scour far and wide for a source of large head iron nails. Their addition added about 3 pounds to the board. See more photos on aswood.works.
Friendship Found (2019)
Third donation to Worldbuilders. Friendship Found was themed after Kvothe, Willam, Simmon, and Auri. The red paduk in the center 4×4 grid represents our fiery haired Kvothe; the center of the story. The deep black wenge that makes up the 6×6 grid represents Wilem. The 8×8 grid is made of leopard wood, which is meant to represent the sandy haired Simmon. The zebrawood circles that make up the 5×5 grid form a starburst pattern. This pattern is meant to represent Auri who is so beautifully bright and sunny.
Encore (2020)
Fourth donation to Worldbuilders. This Tak board is themed after The Eolian, Stanchion, and Deoch. It is the sort of board that one might find behind the bar - high quality but also very but rugged with a splash of elegance. Woods that feel a little "earthy" and a dash of Stanchion's fire. The inside of the box has shaped EVA foam coated with velvet to snuggly cradle each row of pieces.
